If you blow air back into the tank, it needs to be from behind the fuel pump (there's a check valve in the pump). Also make sure to remove the fuel filler cap before pressurizing the tank. A plastic tank can only hold so much PSI before it ruptures.
If that seems to help, you'll need to drop the tank and clean the screens in the mixing chamber or do the in tank mods to eliminate them.
Well Ill be, I think that got it, I hit the same hill yesterday with my boat and it was nasty, came home changed the fuel filter hit the same hill with the same boat with no change, blew air through the line into the tank hooked up the boat and flew up the hill with no issues I would say HKusp hit that one right on the head. Thanks to everyone, now how do I keep it from doing it again
Like they said you need to drop your tank and clean the little filters inside the mixing chamber. Or better yet do the hutch and harpoon mod. The hutch mod basically gets rid of the little screens inside the tank so they cant plug up anymore. it also reroutes the return fuel away from the pickup tube which helps eliminate air in the fuel lines to the motor. Just be aware that because you are getting rid of the screens in the tank it is recommended that you put some sort of fuel filter in between the tank and the fuel pump. Here is a link to the hutch mod.
The harpoon mod is just something that most people do when they drop the tank to do the Hutch. It basically makes it so you can get more fuel in at the pump before the nozzle clicks off. there are tubes that stick into the tank as you will see in the link. cut them off and you are good to go. Here is a link to the harpoon mod.
Another problem is the fuel line between the tank and the fuel pump. he goes over this in the link for the hutch mod so read over that and you should be covered. I mean if you go to the trouble of dropping the tank you might as well do everything you can do so you don't have to drop it again in the future.
Glad you got it worked out and it was something easy and free. I agree with agg, go ahead and do the hutch and harpoon mods and it shouldn't happen again. I am probably going to do them while I am at RRE in August, that way I will have plenty of help.
You need to put a filter assembly between the tank and the fuel pump inlet if you Hutch the fuel pickup.
All that debris that likes to clog the fuel pickup screens will simply migrate to the screen that is on the inside of the fuel pump inlet and give you the same symptoms in short time.
Then you'll have to replace your fuel pump because you cannot get at that screen very easily to clean it out.
It doesn't have to be much, just something like one of those cleanable screen cartridge filters that you used to see on Holley double pumper carb setups.
