My Dad has a 1990 F150 single tank 5.8 motor. It just started and quit, it will try to fire then nothing. I went and checked it out and came to the conclusion that it is not getting enough gas. When I turn the key I hear the relay kick on under the hood for a couple of seconds. Sometimes it will start then if I close the hood or slam the door it stops. Maybe a loose or broken connection somewhere. Usually the only way it will start if I turn the key on several times and let it pump more gas in. Any ideas? Thanks
Could be a bad fuel pump.
Ground pin #6 of the test connector with key on and see if the fuel pump starts and then stops. If it does this you may have a bad pump.
If the fuel pump does not run when you do this then shake the wiring on the drivers fender and see if the pump will start back up with pin # 6 grounded and the key on. If it does start when shaking the wiring look for a bad wire under the socket of the EEC Power relay or Fuel pump relay.
Thanks for the quick answer. If it starts and stops it may be a bad pump, if it keeps running then what? Bad connection somewhere? Where do I find this test plug?
