I really miss having dual tanks on a pickup is there any aftermarket add on tanks? Even a 10 gallon backup tank would be nice. Lots of room under there for it.
You can thank the feds for no dual tanks. There a lot of companies that make auxilary tanks for diesels, but nothing that I'm aware of for gas. Titan and Tranfer Flow both make larger replacement tanks for gas and diesel. It runs close to $1000 for it. If I'm not mistaken I think you can get close to 60 gallons with a long bed truck.
Is that why? I had a old Doge Power Wagon for awhile it had a tank behind the seat inside the cab, and dual tanks. I forget how much that thing could hold. Plus locking front and rear differentials old had it for a few months that thing was a beast and it needed all that gas just to get down the street.
The 38 gallon tank is larger then the old duel tank setups as i believe on my 78 250 and my 84 250 they only held about 18 each which only comes to 36. Duel tanks are a pain to fill because u have to fill 2 sides although the 84 had a front and back if i remember right. Then when u run out u got to throw the switch and hope she picks it up which was never a problem. The bigger aftermarket tanks are pricy but u can get a transfer tank to put in your bed and u pump it in with a transfer pump. Handy for toys and mowers and such. But a pricy setup also. I agree the factory tanks are too small especially on the short bed pickups. They even make fuel tank tool box combos for gas or diesel but they are pricy also. I would like more fuel but only one tank.
I believe mainly because of all the problems they have. Our company has 5 trucks with the dual tank option, and every one of them has some problem with the system. I'm glad Ford only offers a single larger tank.
I had a 72 F-250 that had dual tanks. One behind the seat that held 19 gallons then on the drivers side, under the front of the bed was another tank that held 32 gallons. It had a manual valve just under the drivers seat that you could switch while going down the road. It work flawlessly for over 200,000 miles. When gas went to 50 cents a gallon back in 74, it seemed like a fortune to fill the thing.
Today, I have seen transfer tanks which you have to stop and pump gas into your main tank and also tank replacements, but I have not seen auxilery tanks that go inside the frame and under the bed as of late.
