Hey guys my front fuel pump is out in my truck, but the back one works great. When I drive on the back tank, the unused fuel returns to the front tank, so I gotta drive it on the front sometimes. Is there a line I could block off as a temporary fix so that the fuel returns to the back tank, eliminating the use for the front tank altogether? Its a 96 F150 with a 300.
Yes but you will have to find something to plug both fuel lines going to the front tank.
You could cut the fuel tubes off as they come out of the tank. Take them to the bench and smash the cut ends closed and then braze them closed.
They do make test plugs but I do not know where to get them.
I take it the front pump still works but the shuttle valve or the check valve is bad in the front tank.
Dang I was hoping there'd be a rubber line I could pinch tight with a couple hose clamps. i might as well just drop in a new pump and call it good. any good aftermarket ones (holley, walbro) or should i stick to the super expensive oem stuff
So I have dual tanks on my truck. My front fuel pump is dead and I would like to eliminate the need for the front tank altogether- but there's a problem. Since we have a return style fuel system, the unburned fuel returns to my front gas tank, which is the one with the weak fuel pump. I was wondering if there's a return line I could plug that would force all the fuel returning from the motor back to the rear gas tank, so that the front tank's fuel level would never increase and I wouldn't need it.
I hope this is a little more clear. I think I'm going to end up putting in a new fuel pump anyway.
If the front one runs and is weak more than likely you have a problem with the back one as well. It sounds like the front is pumping into the rear tank as well.
My guess would be that the back one has a bad Check Valve in it and the front one has a bad shuttle valve in it.
