i got a 89 f250 4.9 and i got a bad knock in the rear of the engine. i pulled the last spark plug out and theres a little bit of oil on it. not to sure whats going on in there but its not running right.. any ideas to get me started?
Start with a compression test it will tell you if you put a hole in a piston or if you have a valve problem. No really any easy fixes for knocks. Could be a flywheel coming loose or something wired but that wouldn't explain it running bad.

wont be a flywheel coming loose and the clutch was a jsut done a couple of months ago.. i'm startin to sink way to much money inot this beast. i hooked a test light up, put it on the spark plug wires and when i did that every wire the truck would die, but when i did it on the last wire it did nothing
what kinda mileage ya got on this truck-if your loosing one plug firing and it got high mileage could just be a dead cylinder knock-when was the last time ya had a tune up? new wires e.t.c-use and ohms tester and check each and every spark plug wire-if the show no continuity replace em-and the plugs while your at it-and second note depending on who changed the clutch-a few months ago -never think that things don't come loose-seen it happen many times
its probly got about 250000 kms i changed the module on the side of the distributer, the distributer, coil, plugs and wires about a year ago. just changed the plugs again yesterday hoping that would be a cheap fix but no luck.. im probly going with a dead cylinder knock because its quite loud.. how u go about fixing it and how much does it cost?
thanks
Depends on what caused it. If you have a hole in a piston a complete rebuild is most likely your best bet. I would start by pulling the valve cover and look for any thing out of place, the tops of the valves should all be at the same height and check the springs to see if any are broken. If you don't find any thing here probably go ahead and pull the head. If you find any serious problems a good junk yard motor would probably be the cheapest fix.
