Intermitant maf fault
99 F-150 5.4. Bought this truck 3 weeks ago, runs great except once in a while it will miss 1 time pretty hard while driving. watching the scanner when this happens i noticed the maf voltage was zero. i backprobed the harness at the connector and i still get a reading, which seems correct, however the scanner still shows zero. what are the odds that i have an intermittant problem with the ecm?

Can you try another scanner? If the DVM is reading ok I woud question what the scanner is picking up on. Might try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if that changes anything.

I believe the scanner is not at fault because i will show a normal maf reading untill the truck misses. then the scanner shows zero for maf reading. as i continue driving the maf reading will return. i cannot find a pattern to the issue either.

I think I found the problem. I checked the plug going into the ecm and found that if i tried to twist it a little the maf voltage would zero out. if i loosened the bolt about two turns which pulls the plug out a little I cannot make it loose connection. I have drove two days with the plug a little loose and havent had anymore trouble. now i think i will try to put some dielectric grease on it and tighten it back up.
