Bed Bolts

I'm going to need to pull the bed soon and would like to get a good quality Torx bit for the impact wrench ahead of time. As I recall they are Torx bolts, but right now they are hidden under a drop-in bedliner (which will obviously have to come out first...) so I can't see them.

Can anyone tell me the Torx bit size? It doesn't list it in the shop manual. '05 long bed, not that it probably matters.

Thanks,
Dave

Here's a thread regarding bed removal... post #6 says the T50 is too small but IIRC, that's the correct one...I think what he's saying is that as badly as they were stuck, the T-50 was just not budging them. Hope it helps.

I found the below, but could not find the bolt TORX size. I have had mine off, and was thinking it was a T55, but it could have been a T50.

PICKUP BED ALIGNMENT
Loosen the pickup bed retaining bolts.
Move the pickup box so the front of the box is centered on the rear of the cab.
Adjust the pickup box to specification.
Tighten pickup bed box to specification. 47 foot pounds

PICKUP BED REMOVAL
Removal and Installation
Remove the tailgate.
Remove the tail lamps.
Remove the rear bumper.
Disconnect the rear tail lamp electrical connector.
Remove the rear tail lamp wiring harness from the pickup bed.
Remove the screws
Loosen the fuel filler assembly hose clamps, then position the fuel filler assembly aside.
Remove the bolts.
CAUTION: Handle the pickup bed carefully when removing from the vehicle to avoid damage to the cab or bed finish . NOTE: For 6-3/4-foot and 8-foot pickup beds, three assistants are necessary to remove the pickup bed from the vehicle. Carefully lift and remove the pickup bed from the vehicle.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Thanks, Powerstroke. I read the thread you linked. I have the Lisle bits and previously broke one trying to get a seat belt anchor off another car. I think the Lisle bits are crap, so I was hoping to get a good one to avoid the breaking problem as I had heard the bed bolts were "difficult".

Still hoping for a confirmation on the size... And maybe I'll buy like 5 of them

Thanks again,
Dave

Any time buddy! Clayton may have the right size above in his post. 50 or 55 sounds right.

I went through several bits until I got a good one when I did mine, I still ended up taking a cutting torch to three of my bolts though they were stuck so bad.

Yup, I've heard the same thing from many. When they had to take the bed of mine, I guess we just lucked up because they weren't stuck too bad.

I've dug around about everywhere I can and I come up with them either being T-50 or T-55. No definitive answer. You might check with Ed adn Y2K parts....he should be able to tell you for sure. Here's the link:

And here's the link to his profile page if you want to drop him a PM or profile message.

T50 worked fine when I took mine off, once I got a good T50 though, broke a few in the process

only tip is to make sure it is an impact bit, i had a bunch of chrome lookin ones and they sucked, finally found a place in town that had impact bits and i bought two, only used one of them. and it took one hell of a pounding
