I have these stenceled on the outside(engine side) of the fire wall and behind the gas tank,1-3-A any clue as to what they are. All other numbers i understand. They are on a 49.
Was the truck recently (last 10 years) used for commercial transport or Government work? I'm wondering if those are the chemical identifiers (you know, the four colored squares that tell the fire peope what the characteristics of what yo uare carrying.
Or the truck might have been owned by an old Navy fart who wanted to paint frame locaters on it - not sure, but I'll bump this back up for you.
I have owned the truck for 3 1/2 years and it sat in a yard (where i bought it) for many years. the numbers are similar to the one on the cowl 1-20-49 which matches the one stamped on the firewall. Thanks for your ideas.
There are so many eccentricities withthe numbering on these truck. Remember that factory workers were generally not educated back then and standards were much looser. It's always interting to study a different numbering scheme.
You might want to send a PM to Number Dummy (Bill) maybe he knows something about it!

I read this thread yesterday, liked your comment about the old USN phart.
In Navy speak 1-3-A could refer to an airgroup on the Navy's first carrier, the USS Langley (CV-1).
Are these numbers yellow?
Whether they are or not, it's prolly some sort of code assembly line workers used.
The numbers are pretty well faded, but they probable were yellow. The one behind the tank is eaiser to tell color, and the 1-20 49 definatly is yellow.my guess like yours is some sort of production number. Interesting what you find on these old toys.
