C-6 Gearing. Help
Hey guy's, I have a C-6 from a wrecked 83 4X2 that I would like to put into my 80. The 80 also has C-6. I know that the gears are diffrent in the rear end, but are the gears diffrent in the Tranny. I have heard diffrent reviews and theories on this. Some say it is okay to just swap and others say don't because it will blow the diff's. Any help always welcome. Thanks, Jeff

C-6 Gearing. Help
As far as I know, all c6 trannys have the same gear ratios. As for blowing the diff, remember, some trucks with the same axle came with 4spd trannies with granny low. Couple that with a transfer case in low and that adds up to major torque on the diffs and they hold up fine (unless you get stupid

Thanks Nathan, One more question. As a back yard mechanic, will I be able to do this swap by myself. Am renting a big tranny jack and have two ford manuaels for refrence. I also have a freind to help with any lifting but will be doing all the wrenching myself. Jeff

C-6 Gearing. Help
Well, got the tranny drained, read up in the Chilton's what to do and found out that I really didn't have the right tools for the job and shut the hood. I added everything up with time and tools to do it myself and then found out what a shop will charge to swap out the trannys and found I am money ahead to let the shop do it. It may take two weeks in off time for them to do it but it is a spare rig right now. Maybe next time. Thanks for the help. Jeff
