SIDO Vs. True Duels
i want to get an exhaust for my truck and its between a mangaflow SIDO catback kinda like this one here ... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Magna...Q5fAccessories
or have a good friend of mine weld me up a custom true duels with turbo core mufflers. he also says going all the way out the back will sound better than infront of the tire.
probably going to cost about 700+ more if i wana buy a set of magnaflows
so its bolt on for 500 or custom for 700
now heres where i need your advice. whats the better deal? what one will get me more power? better sound? i know people on here have both i wana hear your opinions! thanks!

buddy is ripping you off...sorry, but no way in hell a custom setup will run $700
Magnaflow Dual In, Dual Out Muffler is under $100.
Cut the "Y" off after the cats, weld the new DIDO muffler on, then run new piping out the drivers side. You can keep the OEM 2.5" pipe on the passenger side. If you want it exit out the back, cut the OEM angled part off after the axle loop and weld in a straight section
I'd say $300 is a more reasonable quote for this style of True Dual setup. a 2.5" dual exhaust is good for 400+ HP, and trust me, you will have plenty of noise. If it isn't loud enough, put 5" tips on both of the pipes...that will get it even louder

its mandrel bent from the cats on both sides, not from the Y. both get there own muffler and a crossover.
so thats 200 in just mufflers. idk how much the stainless steel runs or how much it costs to mandrel bend it. all i know its some hardcore stuff. he did the same stuff for my 95 and i loved it.
so i dont know if it really is a bad deal.... to be honest he told me on my 95 would cost 600 and he only charged 400... so i dont know
and you can really ask them to charge you less? interesting lol gotta try that.
thanks for the info bro.

that auction has a "Make an Offer" link. That is how I got the Magnaflow Magnapack for my old Mustang GT. it was $550-600 everywhere. I offered a guy on eBay $350 shipped.
and got it for $350 shipped

My neighbor had our local muffler shop put a flow master SI/DO muffler and pipes out the back with tips sounds nice was like 350$ I think doing duals all the way back is personal preference, and if your on a budget that's another thing to think about i dont think there is much difference in tone.

im with tylus here.... i live in alaska, and can get a custom setup for cheaper than that. your custom setups should always cost less than a boxed kit...... the reason people pay for the "cat back" systems from magnaflow, flowmaster, etc etc is just due to convenience. anyone can install one in their driveway in about an hour with basic tools.
that being said, it really comes down to you.... do you want to do it yourself, or give business to this guy? ask him what his hourly rate is..... i wouldnt pay more than 200 for labor, being that it really wont take him too long to do.

Coming from the Stang world I originally wanted FM's and get something fabricated so I can hear my truck. Well, a deal came up and I had to get it. The complete cat back system from a Mustang for $50. Two VForce mufflers and two tips is what I ended up with after I cut the rest of the crap off. Muffler shop is going to hook me up w/welding and install for $100. $150 bucks invested. Not a bad deal at all I think.
