I want to thank everyone for your help in the plug issue. It only took me three hours and had them replaced with champion plugs. If ford ever makes a one piece plug then I will go back to that. My intention was to soak them today but each one that I turned a 1/4 turn was loose so I just kept going till I was done. 48,000 miles. Getting to the plugs are really not bad. I removed the computer and bracket and the rear one was easy. I was scared with each one I started. And of course they didn't break because I bought the Lisle tool on ebay. I am happy to be done. Saved some major money. Going to enjoy my long weekend. Thanks everyone.
It's funny, but completing the job of changing plugs in a 3 valve 5.4 sure gives you the sense of accomplishment... I felt that way once my 3 broken plugs were out and the job was done.
Congrats! Welcome to the "it's over" club. Now you wont cringe when you read "another plug thread"....
Glad it worked out for you. Wish I would have looked here a few years ago for my 04...
Tried today and broke 3 plugs on a holiday weekend. Looks like Monday I will get it to a shop for replacement/removal of old plugs and Champions will be going back in.
I have an 08 with the 5.4, how do I tell which engine I have? If I have the one with the problems I will change them right now because i don't want the grief later on. Thanks.
Check the driver side valve cover for a label on it. It will have the engine manufactured date. Anything after I beleive 11/07 should have the new head design.
so any chance your going to be selling the removal tool? im thinking about changing mine soon (i have 37000 on my 06) and want to do the job before it absolutely needs it.

I might as well. Its brand new and of course never used. I will sell it for the price I got it for. Send me your email address at russkedz @ hotmail.com. I will give you the details. Actually I think its a pretty cool tool. Just glad I won't have to use it.
Lucky You!! 59,000 miles on a 2006. 5 broken, took parts of 3 days. Kudos to OReilly auto parts, able to provide me with the Lisle tool in a little under 5 hours.
I have a good deal on the lisle tool if anyone in Central Iowa needs it!!!
