Bought the truck with a Grant replacement steering wheel on it, God knows who put it there and why but I like the stock steering wheel Ford used, so I'm trying to get the damn thing off... A friend of mine explained to me that I pry the horn button off, undo the big bolt and then I can use the steering wheel puller tool to get the adapter off... I most of that done.
Anybody know how your supposed to get this adapter off? I see the three spots where I screw in the bolts, but the puller tool I have is (or appears) to only be set up to remove wheels with two spots, also, the bolts don't fit into the three spots... Do I need a more sophisticated tool to get this adapter off?
I have a grant steering wheel on my truck and I use a OTC steering wheel puller 7403 that has 3 bolts to remove it. It also has the 2 position spots for other steering wheels. Do not pound or pry it off you will break stuff get a 3 bolt puller. BTW you should look for a factory tach for your truck. My brother put one in his 81. Would look pretty sweet in your truck.
Funny, I'm going in the opposite direction. I'm redoing the interior, and have been looking for a nice wood wheel to replace the pencil=thin stock ford wheel. Grant wheels seem reasonable compared to momo or nardi, on ebay for example.
Yes, and when I got the truck both the window cranks were broken off, as were both the door handles, and the shifter... The last guy who owned this thing had some issues... lol.
If you are putting in a stock steering wheel and you don't need the grant adapter anyways. I would cut into it like 7/8 of the way and hit it with a chisel lightley to crack it then remove it. Since you don't need it anyways. It doesn't matter what you have for a shifter since the vice grips worked. Didn't notice it a first, pretty cool though. Don't remember seeing the 3 on the dash for the shift position. Haven't been around a lot of 80's trucks lately. Usually older or newer. Good luck on your project.
