Going to Melville to pick two of three Econoline vans, One in ih Melville the other at Punnichy Reserve. Have another person from MAnitoba to pick up the 3rd van later in the month when they come to Saskatoon to pick up a car I have for them.
I think this time it will be quicker to go to Springside then down to Melville. Then back through Raymore. The other way had a lot of slow down for town speed and stop signs. The back trip route has a lot of old trucks and cars in the farm yards , so the neck gets a work out.
These vans are not for me. They are for a fella who is into those old vans and he wants to fix one up. SO I offered to help. First need to get a new tire for my trailer.
Hope the weather is good.
What do you pick vans up for? I can't imagine to one from the reserve will be much good. You'll be going through my home town of Leross. Be careful at the intersection of 35 and 15 and have a good trip.
I grew up next to it my whole life and now live within spitting distance of three....... I beg to differ.
However you are right there are a lot worse ones out there.
Met that intersection on the first trip. You sure do not expect the stop signs at the edge of town.
The crazy thing is that van from the reserve is the one in best shape rust wise. The roof is the worst of it from kids jumping on it. The doors are not rusted out like most early 1st gen vans. There are dents, that are fixable. The other van from Melville will probally just have a stop here in Saskatoon and a new owner is coming from Calgary for it to restore it. These ones are all MErcury vans, not Fords. There seems to be more guys wanting the Mercury vans than ford because there are less of them made. Don't ask me why when the sheetmetal is all the same. Just name plates.
I don't think so. We spotted the van on our last trip on our way back. So we stopped and had a look. The guy had a lot of cars and trucks in various degree of disassembly. But he was not a wrecker. He just buys and fixes up other people from the reserve. He enters his cars in the ugly reserve vehicle contests. And some of them are ugly. He won last year with this van. Doesn't say much for the van.LOL LOL . It is pink in color and has a razor visor and a bumper spoiler on it. That will go. But the visor actually looks good on the van. It has a black area and white. With a big Bull skull mounted to the front which is painted white. I know it sounds bad, but we looked it over and it has potential for what my friend wants to do. Will undo some of their stuff and probally cut a roof skin of another van here and weld it on. The roof is really the worst of it.
He hopes to drive it this summer and next winter go to town fixing everything on it.
Well The trip was a long one. Left here at 7:30 and got home at 9:45 this evening. I made a pit stop at the shifters show and shine on 22nd tonight.
Got one van home. The van that we were to drive home. The guy left town knowing we were coming today. His wife was glad to take the money. But we still would of not had a receipt to get a permit to drive it home. So we kept the money til he is there to give a receipt so the van can be properly driven and registered in his name. Just to be safe. He made no arrangements with family about us coming for the van today.
We got the one van loaded. Had to change all four tires. They all went flat as soon as we put air in them. Got it on the trailer and my 86 truck pulled it like a trooper. It sucked bucking wind for half way home.
Anyway the van has some rust issues, but none of the rust is in any of the crossmember s or frame or the bad places. It is a preety solid van and straight sides. It will not take the right person long to restore this vam. This van is going to Calgary to a new owner there.
My friend will have to go another day to get the pink van. And I hope the guy coming from Winnipeg can pick up the other van on his empty trailer. He will need to load it on the flat tires. I will see if he still will do this for us.
I still had a good time today, just long. I really need to get a new flatdeck trailer with a winch. My shoulder cannot take this hand winching much longer.
I need a winch, I been looking at what guys come and load up vehicles I sold for my neighbor. Man some of those winches struggle to move a car. Others no problem. So I been noting which were the good ones. They cost over a $1000 for them. The princess auto ones seem to work good for the first few times then they struggle.
My shoulder cannot do as much. With it the way it is. My arm strength also gets weak. It is age and abuse of my body when I was younger.
