Torque Convertor Rattle (?)
I just purchased a very used (190K) 1999 F250 W/the powerstroke. The concern I have is with a rattling noise from underneath. It sounds somewhat like a small bracket rattling and is there until the transmission TCC engages, when all you hear is the diesel rattle. On decell, at about 38 mph, the TCC disengages and you hear it again. There is also a "bump" on takeoff, pulling away from a stop sign. I asked the dealer to let me take a new truck equally equipped out to drive, where I felt the "bump", but no real noise.
Another member advised he had a friend with a similar rattle, & it was the torque convertor which had the fins breaking off inside. When the TCC locks up, no internal movement, so no noise. It sounds feasible, but I wanted to see if anyone has also hear of this, or had similar problems.
As a side, I crawled under it yesterday & checked convertor bolts & all is tight. No cracks evident in the flywheel either.
Thanks for any info....
