Cool Do not call list = useless

I get five calls a day from some idiot trying to sell me something.
Two more from a computer telling me that I qualify for a new credit card.
Another one or two for good measure from someone over in India wanting to update my yellow pages listing for "free".

I've registered every number I have on the do not call list.
I never, repeat NEVER fill out any forms or questionaires.
.
Anyone have any suggestions? I'm ready to go on a rampage!!!
.
Not really, but it sure would feel good!

Dan, I saw a news report that said you can take them to small claims court if they violate the do not call list..

They are to pay $600 per violation..

YOu need to keep accurrate records in order to get them though..

I don't get that many calls, but it sounds like you could rack up a serious amount of fines they would have to pay you..

The other thing you can do is file a complaint with your state attorney general..
This option won't put any money in your pocket and probably will not stop the calls..

I heard about that too, and might take that time to persue that.
Most of the numbers show up as "out of area" or "unavailable" or "private caller" or "toll free" so I really don't have a good way of tracking the ones that I really want to get.

That is the problem..

I guess the only way is to talk to the morons..

I believe they have to give you their info if you ask for it..

Then you could write it down in a log..

I won't answer the phone unless I recognize the number.
If they leave a message on the message bank I don't have setup, then I will get back to them.

Sorry to hear of your trouble Dan.

Sometimes the numbers on the caller ID are there due to a number generator ,hot even close to the number they are calling from .There is also something called a relay service called I711.com...

Problem with ignoring calls is a lot of the new numbers are from college students from out of town with thier cell phones calling me from 1 mile away. The number shows up as out of state.
So if I ignore the phone, there goes a business opportunity.
.
When I retire, I am going to burn every phone I have.
But until then I'm stuck holding the tiger by the tail.

Oh great!.
.
This one is my favorite:
A caller from India calls me to tell me that my free web listing is being updated.
They parrot off all the information on the screen in front of them and at every item they ask me if it is correct. Up to this point, I have confirmed the information is correct.
They then ask me if my name is correct and I confirm that my first name is correct, then they want to know my last name and I tell them: "undisclosed".
They won't take that as an answer and they insist on having my last name.
I hang up.
They call the next day and repeat the process.
On about the sixth trip around that tree, I ask them what part of the information that they already have is not good enough and inform them that they will never get an authorization for any services from me or any other such income.
STOP CALLING!!!!
That works for about two weeks and then it starts all over again.

Oh - I can really empathize then, I didn't realize it was your business, you are probably half way through adjusting valves on an engine (or other work), have to hold the job, wipe hands etc. answer phone and then... Sir we have this wonderful product you might be interested in.

I also have an unlisted home phone number at home , that helps a lot .Only random dialer s will get through every once in a while.
At work I have a feature called selective call block . I can add the last caller to a list that can't call me (it blocks them ) ..the list is short ,12 numbers , so I have to delete some of the older ones occasionally ,, but it is well worth the effort .After a while they stop trying ...

Also see if your service provider offers "Anonymous Call Blocker".

Keeps all the ""Private" and "Anonymous" callers off your line. Sadly, doesn't work for "Unknown" or "Out of Area" if a number is provided...

Its worth the two bucks or so per month.

I was getting the "You Vehicle Warranty" has expired, on my home and cell for months while being on the "Do Not Call" list.
One of my Senators(Schumer) got the call from these idiots in May and went ballistic over the call,,,funny how action happens.
He immediately started an investigation...yes I had sent a ton of reports to his office..all ignored, and now it's stopped after he got his call!

Call Chuck...(202) 224-6542

Okay here is a phone scam warning.

India person calls and says...Is this The **** motel. (I am not allowed to say the name as I am not a sponsor) I say yes it is they say they are confirming the information for the yellow pages directory. Then as you say they "parrot" off the information. name of motel and then the address and phone number. They say "is this correct" and you say "yes it is" "Okay thank you and have a nice day" Flash forward two months.....Then you really look at your phone bill and hidden in the dark recesses of page 9 you find a charge of 49.99 and then you realize it has been there for two months. No wonder your bill was higher than normal. Come to find out they use your answer to "is this correct?" to authorize the billing of additional crap. You have to go through so much BS to have it completely removed.
So don't fall prey to the wicked cobra people.

Been there done that, I was out of town on vacation one time and they "confirmed" all the information via Mark, the man that works for me.
Charges started showing up on our phone bill and we called them about it.
They tried to make it stick, but I told them that Mark is not authorized to make such decisions for my business. He is simply an employee.
They were TICKED and did not want to release us from the charges, and I told them go ahead and sue.
The recordings that they have on file were not recordings of me and if they want to deal with fraud charges, go ahead make my day.

I screen ALL of my calls, so it doesn't bother me at all, even though I've been
on the 'DO NOT CALL ME BECAUSE I DON'T WANT THE CRAP YOU'RE SELLING' list for quite some time now.
