Yes ,the older pans didn't have much problem.I don't know the year they started it,but Ford started using crappy steel in their pans and prior to that, you seldom if ever heard of them rusting out.The bad thing is the job it is to replace them, and then there is their automatic trans pans with no drain plug, what dink engineer thought that up?You need a wash tub to even change the fluid, and what a mess! Ya gotta love 'em tho, everything else is worse.
I've been kinda side tracked by a few other things that have happened. I have managed to get the block painted with one coat of old ford blue. I have to finish cleaning up the head and I'll be able to put it on and paint it too. I've got to clean up the oil pan, lifter cover and valve cover so I can paint them also.
Hopefully this weekend I'll have some pictures to post of how it is progressing.
Well after some delays and computer problems I'm finally getting around to an update. Below is the newest pictures of the engine. I pretty much decided to go with the old for blue and ford gray. I'm getting closer to having it done. I have the valve cover and oil pan to get cleaned up and painted and put the new seals and gaskets on it. Can't wait to get this thing done and in the truck.
That engine clean-up is about to motivate me into doing some painting and cleaning of mine. It has a little paint on the rocker cover, but it would be nice to see it clean. I need some gaskets too.
It's getting closer. I've got the oil pan painted now. I have to get the cam cover painted and put the seals in it and the rear seal. Hopefully by this weekend I'll have everything painted on the engine.
It definitely won't be chevy orange. I'll leave that for the chevy motor guys. Nothing against it just don't want it on my engine.
I'm leaning towards ford blue and ford gray.
Someone said something about chrome valve cover. Is there a good quality one out there or are they the thin cheaper ones? I don't want to put something on it that's going to leak later.
ford grey isnt bad, engine looks like new basically if that was the original color like mine
Well here's the finished product. Nothing fancy, but it is clean and has new gaskets and seals. All I wanted was a engine that doesn't leak oil everywhere is clean looking. Just have to get a fuel pump and sandblast my headers (working on today) and repaint them and she is going in.
Looks great! That's why it so import to clean, clean and clean,You don't want this sharp looking engine to start peeling and losing paint.Yes,is a job to be proud of.Looks like you did a top notch job!
hi, two things, i have always felt a good detail paint , is sometimes better looking than a lot of chrome and # 2 a clean engine is a happy engine. its beautifull, i would ride with you anywhere. six on. later paul md
