3.73 vs 4.10

what will the main differences be. i know i would have better towing and off of the line power with the 4.10 but how bad would my fuel economy suffer?? is there a ratio in between that would work..
im just looking for another power edge

It really all depends on what you want to use the truck for.

What are the benefits of 4.30 gears? I have to double check but I believe thats what I've got.

The taller your tires, the taller the gear ratio you need to even it out for the trans. Or if you just want to pull houses not necessarily on the highway, or spring off the line like a gasser, then taller gears are for you. LOL

as I understand it, they only make 4.30's for the rear end. If you have 4x4, the dana 50 (earlier models) and 60 jump from 4.11 to 4.56.

I don't think the VIN will tell you but the door tag also has the info for the gear ratio also.

Look on your tag on the inside door for the axle number. Then google "Ford Axle Codes". Mine says F2, which is the 4.10. I love it for towing. I pull a 15K horse trailer, and it really does the job. As far as mileage, I get about 15.5 to 16.5 when not pulling, and about 10 when I pull. I guess the only thing I don't like about the 4.10 rear end is the higher RPMs you have to run at on the hiway. But they are fantastic for pulling, and I'm glad I've got 'em.

The door tag (in the driver's door jamb) under where it says "AXLE" probably says "C1" or "31". C1 = LS 3.73s, 31 = open 3.73s.
