Exclamation 6.9l mods

i got a 84 f-250 with a 6.9l and want more power but dont want a turbo (everbody and their brother has one (like to be diff)). pumps already turned up. a few friends tell me high flow injectors but i cant find any. i was wondering if injectors from a non-turbo IDI 7.3 would work. also would the pump from a 7.3 work for more power? otherwise any other ideas??

i am pretty sure the 7.3 and 6.9 IP's are swappable. I dont think it will give you "power" taking the 7.3 IP and putting it on yours. If you turned up the fuel and dont have a pyro like dyoung said, drive slow. Just get a turbo and smile when you get a crap ton more power vs 10-15 more. The injectors for the IDI are easy to find, just might not be local. here is the first thing on google search, enjoy

supercharge it then.to get more power you need more air and more fuel.together you get results and thats what the turbo and supercharger do(give you more air)and getting more fuel is easy but too much fuel and things start to melt like pistons and such.thats why everyone gets a turbo

You are not going to gain enough power to measure with any tweeks or part changes without adding forced induction of some sort! A turbo is the only forced induction product available for the IDI.

-Enjoy

If you are blowing black smoke, you already have more fuel that you have air to burn.

More black smoke is just wasted fuel, not more power.

The reason everyone has a turbo is because it is the single biggest power add on that exists for a diesel.

A leaf blower would give more air flow.

Well, I am 1/2 way thinking about it!
just think, an old leaf blower and an inverter, some homemade piping and you have a free blower!
I wander how well it would work?

haha yeah the inverter and cost of everything else and you would almost be at the price of a turbo kit.

I have all the stuff laying around, that is why I thought of it.
How much does a turbo for a 6.9 go for?

Somewhere I have a picyure of that very thing, an electric leaf blower mounted under the hood of a small gasser.

A couple things to think about though.

Leaf blowers are not designed to compress air, just move it.
A 6.9 at 3300 RPM consumes 401 CFM of air.

So in order to have boost, you need to supply more CFM than the engine consumes.
And it has to be delivered under pressure.

I have a Husquvarna BT 150 commercial leaf blower, and it delivers a bit over 600 CFM.
So at wide open throttle if it made pressure I might be able to make 4 or 5 pounds of boost.

By round number calculations at 21 PSI boost, my turbo is delivering 1002 CFM at 21 Lbs pressure on my 6.9.

If you deliver less than 401 CFM of air, the leaf blower is actually going to become a restriction in the intake.

The next thing you run into is generating the electricity to run the leaf blower with the alternator.
