Wow, just realized that it's been a long time since I updated this thread. I got the old aluminum slots polished by a guy here in western Pa, and he did an awesome job. I also got a new set of Cooper Discovery Mud Terrains because I was tired of bouncing and shaking around on the old bias ply Goodyears. I've also been truck pulling in the stock classes locally, and despite the whooped tranny and rod knock in the 460, it has managed a 2nd, two 3rds, and a 5th place finish. Won a total of $285, which isn't bad for a truck I paid $400 for just a year ago.

Here are some poser pics I took in hay field right after I got the wheels back on.

Don't look too close, the flat paint and bondo are hiding a lot of rust. I have another cab for it, since the floor and cab corners are all patched up. The doors are junk, and really need replaced, and there is putty in the front fenders and hood as well. The bed is the best part bodywise, since it is a southern bed off of one of my parts trucks. It doesn't have any rust, but it is beat up. I replaced all of the frame crossmembers behind the cab, as well as the front spring hangers. The frame rails are nice besides a little rusty patch where the front tank used to be. It looks decent now, but make no mistake it is a typical PA truck. I have all of the parts to make it nice, but I have a lot of projects that have priority before this one comes apart.

That is..so long as no-one breaks midway bad enough it won't get fixed in time.

It will be at the Butler Farm Show this Wednesday in the street stock 6500lb class. Having a blast hammering on this thing at the pulls. I live near Sarver, Pa.

we'll be running the same class....greene county is tomorrow...my first pull ever...

what did you do to combat wheel hop? You clamp your springs by chance?

I have custom deavers with an extra half leaf clamped to the pack and no lift blocks and it still wants to hop on the street when laying tire with 33" bfg a/t's

My truck is a 4-speed so i'll need to be smooth on the clutch...

Edit: Also....do you have a trac-loc in the back or open? I'm planning on getting a sterling with trac-loc soon...

The only way I combat wheel hop is with the C6. So far it hasn't been much of an issue since the auto gives a nice smooth power delivery and calms the truck down. It barely spins, especially on a tight track, so hopping isn't much of an issue. Rear springs are completly stock except for one leaf added to each pack. No clamps. My class also doesn't allow traction bars, so the rear is truly stock.

The rear does have a stock traction lock unit, and is pretty tight. Front is open, but with the weights loaded just slightly to the left side, it will spin all 4 tires evenly at the end of the track.

Good luck at the pulls. Watch out though, it becomes very addicting.

Thanks for the reponse....I also won't be running any weights...didn't have time to make a bar...pretty big handicap I'm guessing!

Stock classes usually don't allow front weights, so I don't have a weight bar either. I just strap some tractor weights down in the front of the bed. Truck weighs about 5200lbs empty, so I run about 1000lbs of weight to get up to 6200lb-6500lb class limits. They do require the weights to be secure, so a heavy ratchet strap is a must.

Just found your thread. I know she's patched together, but you still can't beat a 79 grilled dent side.

Reminds me of a 79 F350 4X4 I saw get punched in the driver's side about a year ago. Original owner, original paint and not a speck of rust anywhere. Seeing that truck totaled just about made me cry!

If you can add any weight under the hood it helps some but mainly like you said be easy letting the clutch out, get moving and then tromp it. I still remember my first pull it looked like tigger jumping up about 3 foot in the front but like me you will learn quickly. Good luck
