i Have a 1986 F-250 6.9 liter turbo diesel, when i am accelerating it is a loud noise like a loud exhaust sound but it is not the exhaust, then it will go away if i let off the gas. Please if you know anything please it would be greatly appreciated.
You may have a leak between the turbo and intake letting the boost escape.
That would sound sorta like a cross between exhaust and an air hose leaking.
no if its he turbo it is screwed up cause i can barley hear the turbo. I am not sure how to check but i am going to record a video and post later thanks
IDI turbos don't make a lot of noise when they are working right.
Without knowing what the boost level is, it could be several things you are hearing.
I lean toward boost because you said only while you are giving it throttle.
Boost is the highest when your throttle is on the floor.
Even though the RPM does not drop when you take your foot off the throttle, as soon as you stop feeding it fuel the boost drops to almost zero.
The Noise is coming from underneath the floor board like near the gas pedal but it doesn't seem like you can hear it from the outside the truck very well to at all
