Check with some of the performance tranny builders...here's a few: www.tciauto.com, www.bmracing.com, www.transmission-specialities.com

If they don't have any they should know where to get them. The other thing you can do is find a transmission shop that know's what they are doing and have them modify a 3 or 4 clutch pack drum to accept 5 frictions and steels...basicly they cut a new snap ring slot higher in the drum. I've used a modifyied drum in the past with over 600 HP and it works. Deen

The best drum to use for the direct drum is an original 4 clutch unit with the snap ring groove down 1.025" from the top.You then cut the .340" pressure plate down to .260" overall then cut a step about halfway across so the edge where the snapring goes measures approx .180" -.185" depending on the clearance you wish to run.You can then run 5 std thickness clutches + steels.
There is a 3 clutch drum that has two snapring grooves that are really no good for upgrading .If you have an original 3 clutch drum with one groove you can machine the p/plate as above to get 4 clutches in.
Just be careful if cutting new grooves in the drum as the steels can drop into the extra groove .
There is also a kit made by alto that you can upgrade a 3 drum to 5 or a 4 drum to 7.The kit has thinner friction plates measuring .062" + thinner steels @.058" + a .125" pressure plate.
The kit is ALTO KIT#26757.
Hi ilikefordbroncos, Ken here. You can take a four plate direct clutch drum and make it a 5 plate clutch by getting a lower pressure plate from a forward clutch drum. The lower plate is beveled and can be flipped upside down and used as a top plate for the direct clutch. This basically creates a thin top plate which will allow you to add one more fiber disk. However, because of differences and plate thicknesses you may have a problem getting the snap ring clearance to come out right. The clearance between the snap ring and clutch pressure plate needs to be about .030 to .050. You can get select fit snap rings from Ford but most Ford stores will likely not have them. I think you can still get a 5 plate drum from Ford Motor Sport but probably costs like the devil. ....Ken
You can "flip" the bebeled pressure plate as Ken has suggested...but I have broken them in competition usage. I'd say it would be fine unless your running high line pressure in your C-6 (manual valve body) or making over 500 HP.
