Right now with the c6 and no overdrive I average about 17 mpg. I plan to do a zf5 swap as well as put a wastegated ats turbo on it that will help get the mpgs up. And as for the idea of coils holding up my heavy 6.9, I don't think so. Coils on trucks are for the birds. I have always planned to do a leaf swap on this truck and when the I can do it I will put in a d60. I have been building the Bronco Ford should have offered since 83 with the intro of the 6.9 in the line. Best part is no fracking computer to deal with unless you want a e4od.
There was a 95 that just sold on ebay. He says it cost him $15k for the conversion but I think he did some upgrades. Seems way high but it depends where you take it. He also converted the drivetrain over to a F250 using the front and rear HD suspensions. Kind of cool. Here is the link on ebay for now. check it out.
weird that ford went back to coils up front for all of there superduty's. they have gotten better turning radius, improved ride to name a few. how silly of ford LOL
A truck is not susposed to ride like a car, it should ride like a truck. People that want a truck that acts like a car is what is wrong with things these days. It will not be long and you wil not even be able to find a manual tranny or t-case because it takes to much effort to drive one.

damn pepsi generation!!!! They stoped making good trucks in 80
the front coil suspension has been around ford since the 60's and is a proven system. didnt say anything about riding like a car. my first vehicle was a 73 hi boy, you dont get much more like a truck then that.
Aurgather, that is mixed. Where I live we have alot of curves and hills so it might be even beter with out all the slow down and speed up. Kemicalburns, I just feel that todays trucks are moving towards comfort more than ever. As for rough you should try my Bronco with this 3/4 ton suspension, talk about rough lol. It is stiff enough this way that with no sway bars I still get little if any body roll.
Apples and oranges when you are talking the difference between the 78-79 frames and the 80+ frames. Keep in mind that the SMALLEST available engine in the 78-79 models was a big block V8. The frames in these trucks HAD to be able to handle that kind of weight and torque.
smallest available engine in 78-79 a big block.....what??? NO. NO big block was ever put into production in a fullsize bronco.
so what do you consider the 351m and 400m to be? they sure are not small blocks. bellhousing is the same as 460.
I know the pattern is the same between the 351m and 400(not 400m!) and 460 but if you research those motors, they first two are not catagorized as big blocks.
