Ford C6/transfer case interchangeability??

Ford C6/transfer case interchangeability??
I have a 1989 F250 4x4, with a bad C6, and I think a BW 1356 transfer case...Wondering if a C6 from a 1986 F250 4X4 will fit even if it is a different transfer case? Both have a 460 engine. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
