Downshift problems on 89 f150

I have something going on with transmission on my truck. The truck only has 85k miles. When driving in OD, and you slow down, and start to accelerate slowly, the tranny will not downshift like it should. You start to feel a shaking or shudder. When you give it more petal, it will finally shift back to 3rd with a clunk noise. If you pull it back manually, everything sounds good. I'm not having any other issues with upshifts. Does anyone know what could be going on? Could i have a bad sensor or something?

If you have an OD transmission, is it the AOD? i.e. doesnt have the OD off switch on the dash. If so, try adjusting the TV cable to start with before going much further.
