firing order is correct, assuming it was before the carb rebuild, i know because i idiot proof myself by only messing with one plug and wire at a time. other than that i used the carb rebuild kit specs and provided ruler to measure the float level 25/32" and float drop 1-19/32". Have done a bunch of cranking though trying to figure this out. Is there a way to "un-flood it" other than time? Maybe pull the plugs and drain the carb start over? Or are these specs I used maybe wrong? It would suck being beat by something considerably smaller than me so i'll keep at it
mark the plug wires, crank it over with the plugs out, that should clear it. plugs back in, should fire. smell the dipstick for gas, if cranked that much, gas will get in the oil. might want to change the oil when you get it done. let me know how you make out. I'm on early morning, and in evenings.
you say your exhaust system is bad?
by any chance is it leaking at the donut gasket at exhaust manifold?
reason i am asking is because i had problems with my 82 6cyl and i thought it was the carb.
turned out it was the exhaust leak letting the exhaust smoke clog the air filter so bad it would just about quit running
a new filter and it ran fine after readjusting the carb
didnt fix the exhaust leak and the truck started running bad again
blamed the carb again and messed with it for days until it quit running
looked at the filter and it was totally clogged after only a 1000 miles
put a new filter on and it ran fine
THINK I MIGHT FIX THE EXHAUST LEAK THIS TIME
good luck

thanks for the info. just got it running again just needs adjusting and i was wondering where the smoke was coming from. i thought gas might have been leaking so i tore it all down checking the gaskets and carb and it seemed fine. I guess back to the parts store
thanks, i noticed a bunch of smoke and couldn't find any leaks on the carb(figured unseen gas leaks from the rebuild)After installing again still smoked and wanted to pull my hair out. I'll have to look into this donut in which you speak. On the plus side truck runs ,carb still needs adjusting though, thanks again to dusty for the advice
no prob. let it warm up then turn the mixture screw in til the motor starts to lope. turn it back a little bit, until the idle raises and smooths out. smoke could just be grease and oil spilled on manifold while you were working on it. if still smokeing after it warms up, look for source. If donut was bad, you would hear it as a loud exhaust leak.
not the donut at all as it turns out. my head gasket is gone and with it goes the motor. I've got a 302 or even better 351 sittin waiting for something to happen. i'll pull the I6 and put it in the storage rotation. i'm thinkin 351 so i can pull anything(i work construction)and not even notice. thanks again dusty, maybe i'll need your advice on the swap(lol i found and spent the money for the wires and plugs)
Just checking, but have you tried starting it holding the pedal to the floor while you turn it over? This will start the truck if its flooded, at least you eliminate that question.
the smoke in the motor compartment the smoke out the back and the bubbles in the radiator. Oh yeah it ran like hell and no carb adjustment was fixing it. But mostly the smoke. I did wonder where that last quart of oil went. On the plus side this means i didn't mess up the rebuild ... just a terrible miss diagnosis

sorry to hear that. mabe just slap a new headgasket on her, until you collect the parts for your swap. that way, you still have wheels while you accumulate everything
