It looks like those grommets are movable on the harness in the link. I rewired everything with no connectors. I don't really know why connectors are needed.

It has connectors so each seperate component can be replaced individually.

If you have a problem with the door to cab harness, you don't have to replace the whole thing to the radio, and to the other door as well.

It also makes assymbly at the factory easier. All they would have to do is bolt the complete door to the cab and plug it in at the door jam.

Nice. I also heard/read you should use a shallow speaker. Is this true?

Nah, the doors are pretty deep; there is plenty of room.

I also thought i'd ad I used some of those foam baffle things for behind the speakers and cut a hole in the bottom. Not for sound quality purposes though, I did it to try and keep water off the speakers in case any got past the weather stripping.

I drilled the holes with the doors on, just used a unibit and a right angle drill. I only mention this because it can be done. I dont know what size the holes are, as I wasnt using anything factory.

Well i just got off the phone w Dennis Carpenter(they are GREAT) they gave me the measurments of the two grommets. One is .686(11/16) and the other is .987(63/64=.984) So lets just say 1". I dont think i can drill the cab hole w the door on. The door hole i can drill from the inside out, w the door on. Figures, forgot all about this till i got the drivers door on and all adjusted

*EDIT* was able to drill cab holes with the door on. Slid uni-bit out as far as i could in the chuck. I got a nick in the cowl but i can touch that up w some color before I spray the truck. The hole in the door was easy. just drilled from the inside out. Made the door hole 1" and the cab hole 11/16"

My truck came with mono AM but when I replaced a damaged door it had the factory harness with bushings connectors and a Ford casting number. The door grommet was huge, I remember filling the hole. It was also just above the top hinge, not down towards the hole you put your hand through to get to the 1/2" fender bolt. This door was off of a 73.

Does anyone have a picture of the factory harness entering the cab? I am still confused as to where it goes in. The cab seems to be double walled in some portions, can you get your arm back there to get to the wire?

Thanks for the file. It shows the door pretty good, but I still can't tell where it goes into the cab.
