Maintenance Mode
- Changed the differiental fluid - the old stuff didn't look too bad (golden honey colored), but I don't know if it has ever been done and the paint was peeling off the cover, so I figured it was time. A couple fresh coats of Krylon Hi-Heat black stove paint and filled with Royal Purple.
- Changed the tranny fluid & filter - I must have not gotten all of the old fliud out though because I only replaced 18 qts and according to Mark Kovalsky's procedure I should have went thru 20 qts. Oh well, that's still better than all of that old stuff in there. Castrol Mercon V was all I could find locally.
- Lastly, I changed the oil.
With 156k on the clock, it was time to get some of this stuff done and I wanted to reduce the possiblity of a break down on our 2400 mile round trip.
I would post some pics, but I can't them to upload right now.
Should reduce the chances of 'stuff' happening by doing some preventative maintenance...
Looking forward to seeing you guys in Gatlinburg...just take her slow and steady on your way to G-burg and all should be well...
We've got another great group signed up for this years rally...
Joe.
Differential cover before painting (but after some clean up).
Inside the rear differential - looks pretty good to me.
The differential plug had some metal shavings, but, with 156k, I don't think it's excessive or anything to worry about.
Finally, the tranny pan and magnet. Again, with 156k on the clock, this does not look excessive to me.
I need to take a pic of the differential cover all nice and painted up... it looks pretty good (but I'm biased).
