Here's the situation: I want a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI truck but need one from a southern state so that there is no rust. But of course, I live in the very north of the country.
If I needed to have the truck shipped to me from a state from a private seller (most likely craigslist), what is the procedure for doing so? I would like any advice on this as to what I should do to make sure it is not a scam and the truck isn't actually a piece of *****.
AND REMEBER: I will not have the time to drive down and look at it if it's located in a very western or southern state.
ebay might be better so you atleast have a leg to stand on if you do get screwed, because everything is doccumented. whereas craigslist you could end up with nothing.
But the thing with ebay is that you have to make sure you have the money before you start looking (which is a good idea whenever you're buying) and the money needs to be wired within 24 hours, it doesn't really give you time to go through the whole process.
A friend tried Carfax for a 88 and all it said was something about being older than 10 years.
Someone here ran a ??Oasis?? report on my '86 for me, it reported "older then 10 years no data" or something like that.
Has anyone had a valid report on older vehicles from either one??
I want to do a Carfax on my '86 but have been told by several not to waste my money.

Sorry, Forgot to mention, We have shipped vehicles 7 times between Central CA and Southern Maine, the first 4 cost us ~$1100.00 (Approx. $1100.00) each, the last 3 have cost ~$1400.00 (Approx. $1400.00) each.
I highly suggest not buying off Craigs list site unseen, Unless you can afford to lose.
There are a lot of thieves on Craigs list... Now don't get me wrong, Craigs list is great as long as you physically goto the seller and make the purchase.

David is right. Fly out and drive it home. It can be done on a weekend. You need to see the vehicle and drive it. There are several nice trucks on ebay one with 58,000 actual miles and one with 16,000 actual miles. The bad thing is, they are priced up there with a powerstroke.
I think you'll find that could cause unfriendliness between peoples, I would never ask someone I didn't know very well to take on a responsibility like that.
also true. Well, I thought about it and think I'll just wait until something pops up within a 12 hour drive from where I live, i'm used to making longer trips than that a few times a year so it's easy for me to drive that distance.
I got lucky, I found mine in Dallas Texas on Ebay. My next door neighbor is a retired Dallas police officer so he drove down with me and drove my car back. It was great, he knew the area and we had free lodging with his son. Deals like that hardly ever happen to me. The truck has turned out to be a great buy.
