I have a 2002 XLT that has A4WD with electronic shift option to go to 4H or 4L. I would like to convert it to electronic shift but 2WD and 4H or 4L. I do not have a need for the A4WD and it causes acceleration problems. Does anyone know of a way to convert it that would be practical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i dont think it will be practical or cheap to convert a AWD to 2WD.
I would question why this needs to be done. What acceleration problem. I have a 2002 and it has 110k miles on it, no problems. Gets 20 MPG at 60 MPH on the road.
When I accelerate the transfer case tends to buck if I have to accelerate fast as to say get to speed to get on the highway. It did this alittle bit before i got new tires but more so now after. I got slightly larger tires since they were cheaper but this should not affect since they are all the same size. I went from stock 235 70 r16 to 235 85 r 16. Are you getting that 20mpg highway? I am averaging about 16 highway at about 65? This was pre larger tires. I realize that the new larger tires will also adversely affect the MPG as well but it should not be that much. The main reason I want to get rid of the A4WD is that I know I drive alittle aggressive and it does what it is supposed to do and transfers power to the other wheels. I am also convinced that if the front rotating assembly does not need to get power regularly then I should pick up some MPG if only the rear wheels are powered. Well if its not a relatively simple fix then its not worth fixing if its not broken. Thank you for your input. Any thoughts on upping the MPG? I am usually on top of keeping up with routine maintenance so im not sure what the problem is.
i drive at a constant 60 MPG on county highways. very little city driving. 20 miles one way to work. The EXP got 20.5 and 20.0 on the last two tanks. THE F150 with 5.4 got 17.7 on last fill up. over 17 is common in summer.
