hi every body i,ve got a 92 f-250 diesel and the darn drivers door is very hard to open from the inside i,ve broke 2 of those inside plastic handles i have checked the latch seems to be ok works fine for a couple of days then the thing acts up i,ve adjusted the cable on the inside handle to the latch any body else had this problem thanks for the help ..... caveman53
I had the same thing happen about 2 months ago. The bodyman said it is really common for the sheet metal under the latch mechanism to get stress cracks. He took two large washers and sandwiched the crack under the latch, and problem solved.
you are a better man than i. as far as i knew that cable is non-adjustable. When it streches out you buy a new one or convert to the old mechanical linkage
My 93 F-250 is the same way. I bought two replacements from the dealer and they both ended up breaking. Neither time did they say anything about the cable possibly being bad. I had to find that out from another Ford owner who went through it too. He found chrome metal handles in some catalogue, but he didn't remember the name.
I'm going to check for the stress cracks and buy a new cable and hopefully find out where he got the chrome handles.
This guy's truck was a 96 Bronco. So were they only available on Broncos? Those 80-86 ones are they interchangeable with the 90's models?
yes the 80-86 F series handles should be interchangable with the bronco's up to 96-97... Oh and you might want to look in the misc parts aisle at the local auto zone, orielys, napa... They usually have the plastic and metal versions of the handles for $5-$10!
