88' F-250 5sp I6 4x4
I am replacing my fixed steering column with a steering column that has tilt and cruise (used from junk yard). Is there any common steering column problems that I should fix before I install it? I heard there were a couple of problems with the tilt columns and just wanted to do a little preventative maintenence on the column before installing (obviously easier to work on out of the vehicle). Just let me know guys!!!
The only problem I had with my `87 was the ign switch actuator. You might want to check that when you turn the key switch all the way to start and back the rod running down the column to the ign switch operates OK.
While you are there checking that linkage out for the ignition (5 dollar part from the dealer if I remember right), make sure the pins for the tilt hinge and adjuster haven't worked their way loose.
