My next project is rear air bags and was wondering if any of you guys had put them on DIY.Mine has ball in the bed so the mounts will go on different than w/o the hitch.I think that I will also install the air compressor.I guess that I will wait untill I can devote a whole day to it.
The air bags that I had on my '95 went on the outside of the frame rail between the frame and the tire. No interference with the 5th wheel hitch hardware on the inside of the frame rail.
How many holes in the frame did the welded plate cover? I've got a B&W gooseneck and went with the bolt in ones that go inside the frame rail. You lose a little bit of sway control with the bags inside the frame, but you only notice it at first. My next project is to install spacers to engage the overloads to get the sway control back.
The 2330s are what I went with too, they are great. Go ahead and get a compressor and gauge and be done with it; because you'll end up there eventually anyway.
You can set the air bags wherever you want them. Even with a heavy load on the truck, I can air the bags up enough that the back still sits higher than the front of the truck. BUT, the more air you put to them, the stiffer the ride.
If you're looking just to raise the back of your truck 2", look for a set of F-350 blocks, they are 4" compared to the F-250's 2" blocks.
I did a google search on ride rite 2330 to compare prices. I found there are two versions for mounting the air bags. what is the difference? Other than the obvious mounting differences is one style better than the other? one older than the other???
