Sorry to ask the dumb question here...What is the regulator? The actual motor that lowers/lifts the window? Or is it part of the switch?
Also, Evilwayz7, what tools do you need for a temporary fix? I have an 06 SCrew and always have a few tools on board, but if there is something i would need, would love to know about it. Thanks in advance!
i've had to replace 2 in my truck, both times the problem was the block that holds the cable ends. they are made of cheap plastic, and the cable ends keep coming out of the block, but you can't just by the block, you have to buy the whole freakin regulator
2004 Super Cab Lariat - Yep! 4 for 4, I have replaced them all and one twice. The right passenger is starting to stick again. $400 plus at the "Dealer cost" (snickers quietly). Went up the chain to Ford on this and another item (more below). Asked if they had reengineered the mechanism, apparently not. The motor still pops the freaking twine they use in the mechanism. Ford told me to **** off.
The other question:
Is there a thread on the stick gear shift selector in the center console on the automatic that locks the gol-danged vehicle in park?
Mine is starting to stick again and I just can't wait to get stuck in park in this 110 degree weather waiting for the dang tow truck. Also took this up the chain in Ford. Same result - **** off buddy. Dealer says can't be fixed - have to replace the whole unit - $700 bucks the first time.
The Engineers on these components need to be kilt and fed to the danged pigs.
So, 1) are these Chinese made parts, or American made parts. 2) Are there any aftermarket replacement components for these problems that are actually made to last?
add me to the list, I just replaced my front passanger side regulator. The cable came off and got all tangled up. I should have checked this site but went and bought a new one yesterday at the dealer for $190
had the first one done at the dealer. that was a rough pill to swallow...that was the driver side.
Passenger side did it to me about a year later. I started looking around. Found the factory part at parts.com and got it for less than 95 shipped to me. And yeah, it was a factory part.
as for the "emergency kit" that you need...large slot screwdriver with a wide blade, mag tip screwdriver set, 1/4" drive metric socket set with a few extensions and a driver handle, and a good pair of needle nose vice grips.

Sorry for the delay in my response. I hadn't signed up for notifications on this thread. The regulator is the entire assembly behind the door panel that operates your window up and down. I carry the tools to take the door panel off and a small clamp to hold the window up. All you need is a flat head screwdriver, ratchet and socket. I just push the window all the way up and put a clamp on the window track so it can't fall back down.
My driver side window is acting strange. It will go down just fine, but has trouble going up. It has been doing this for several months. If you keep mashing the switch it will eventually go up. Is this a regulator about to fail, or is this a bad switch?
