Maybe you guys can help me out? I know everyone now buys the new ULSD. Should I be using any additive such as Diesel Kleen each fill up? I have used Ford's diesel additive in the past.
Alot of us do add DK grey (in the summer, gray in the winter) and while it may not help a whole lot, it doesn't hurt. To address the lack of LSD lubricity, some add an ounce of 2 stroke oil per gallon of diesel (that has mixed feelings) however the best thing you could add is some biodeisel. That'll keep ya well lubed up and squeaky clean!
Yes everything is ULSD add something to it. I've been adding some 2 stroke oil to mine recently even some regular engine oil I had in old boxes. A little makes a big difference. My friend even noticed when I gave him fuel from some jugs I have.
I quit messing with Bio for the most part and just went with DK (gray bottle) in the summer (adds lubricity, cleans, and adds cetane), and PS (white bottle) in the winter. Same as gray, but less cetane and adds anti-gel...
For the record, I think 2-cycle is okay for lubricity since it's meant to be burned during combustion, but it does nothing for keeping the system clean and doesn't add any cetane either.
Another bump for adding a B20 as a additive. Even using it in low ratios like 70% #2 and 30% B20 really quites the engine and is cheaper than using additives. I can't believe how much quiter everything is when I run a straight B20 tank, especially with my single shots, huge difference.

Great... I would like to try it... what is the full name for B20 and where would I go to buy some... I am in the Kansas City area. Any pointers will be helpful. Thanks.

As always, I advocate the use of biodiesel. Even in the smaller quantities from B5-B20, you're more than gaining the lubricity advantages lost when ULSD was mandated.

By the way, B20 stands for 20% biodiesel blended with #2. B5 is 5% biodiesel blend, and so on.
