C6 without kickdown lever:
I just swapped in a rebuilt C6 in my '78 F250 4x4 (had a NP435). I don't have the kickdown lever on the carb, so will it hurt to run without the kickdown rod for awhile? The tranny shop I got it rebuilt at, says I will burn it up if I run without it. I thought it kicks the tranny down into 2nd when you give it full throttle? I have a shaft out of another carb that has the kickdown lever on it, so I am going to replace it in the next couple of weeks.
Also, where can I find the linkage that goes between the column & tranny. I tried to use the 2wd version, but it interferes with the front driveline. I've heard these are hard to find.

NO, it will not hurt the tranny. I have run my 460/C6 combo without a kickdown rod for 7 years now with no adverse affects what-so-ever. It comes down to convienence, whether or not you have to "manually" downshift to second gear "passing gear" by hand or let the kickdown linkage from the carb do it for you.

Finding the right kickdown rod will be a chore! I fought this for yrs. The best solution is a kickdown cable kit from Lokar. I installed one on my 73 F350 and it did make a difference. It's easy to install and adjust. www.lokar.com
