I have a 59 F100 w/'65 352 and 4sp on floor. I currently have the original hydraulic clutch linkage but I would like to switch to a mechanical linkage. I want to switch because I am having some problems with the slave cylinder, not enough clearance between steering box and engine. I think this may be a unique situation since it is a custom installed engine(done by previous owner). Any help would be appreciated.
Travis, you're probably right that you have a unique situation, the 59s came with a mechanical linkage, I am almost certain. You could try to make your own linkage using parts from old trucks, OR there are new hyralic slaves available that fit around your input shaft. All you would have coming out of the bell would be two hoses. I think they are made by McCloud. They were originally intended for circle track racers. DF
Hi Guys, Sorry I hadn't seen this thread sooner. The '59 had a hydraulic slave cylinder that mounts to the bell housing. I ran into the same problem when I put a 302 in my first '59. I found it easier to stay with the hydraulic rather than mess with the mechanical "rod through the floor" set up. On mine, I wound up making a 1/2" steel bracket which I mounted to the 302 bell housing, and I just used longer bolts thru the tranny. Then I mounted the slave cylinder to that. This was back in the late '70's though, and the newer slave cylinders weren't available then. I like DF's sugguestion on the newer style that goes over the input shaft. I believe it would work and it would look better than a homemade bracket.
