yes i checked 17 and switched relays... yes both lights are on and it is for sure in 4X4 low range when i put it into gear you can tell it leaps... and it is geared very low..
Had this happen to me and I kept putting it 2wd 4wd and 4 low pulling forward and backing up.It finally shifted to 2wd and have only used 4wd high since.I think it might be a switch problem and not the shift motor.I have never had trouble in 4wd high.Thats my thought on it. Carl
Been there done that. Your front hubs are not unlocking. Until they do, it won't come out of 4lo. Put selector in 2wd and jack up front right or left. See if wheel turns freely. If it doesnt manually turn it back and forth until hub unlocks and wheel turns freely. Repeat for other front wheel. Make sure U joint by wheel is not rotating when wheel is turning. If it does, hub is still locked. If you can't get hubs to unlock, take out the guts. Hope this helps.
I don't think its a hub thing. Its a low-high problem.I have heard of other people having the same trouble. If it was hubs I would still have a problem in 4wd high.

Know it sounds unrelated. I just know that when mine sticks in 4 lo, I can manually lock and unlock the hubs untill it shifts to 4 hi then 2 wd. My thinking is that the drive line is in a bind and until the front hubs unlock and release the bind it won't shift out of 4 lo. That could also point to a weak shift motor I suppose. Good luck and let us know what you find.
........If it's working right, it won't matter. Unlocking the hubs will lessen you chance of damaging something if you have to drive it.
Verify the wheels free wheel by jacking and spinning each front wheel with the hubs in the UNLOCK or AUTO position engine off/key off. They should free wheel. If they don't free wheel pull the vac. lines to each hub and check again. I really doubt there is vac with the engine off so this is only a verification step. If the hubs are still locked and the , engine off, key off and vac lines off didn't free it up you might have a damaged hub that won't disengage.
Remove both hubs. Then spin the wheels they will have to turn because there is no longer mechanical connection.
Granted this is not long term but a get you home event.
You can try that, but I believe your problem is in the shift motor or transfer case itself. You should be able to shift in and out of 4x4 with hubs locked or unlock.

If there is no vac and the hubs are pulled with the 4wd still engaged it will be the shift motor failed and needs replacing. If that doesn't fix the problem it will be in the tx. case.
well after working with it all night and forward and backing up switching between 4 hi 4lo and 2wd nothing happened... go to it this morning and i start if up put it into N and switch to 4HI and it comes out... so i don't know whats wrong it worked 1st try today
Were you in a lot of mud and water yesterday? If so, the motor or wiring to the motor may have gotten wet and took this long to dry out enough to work.
no i was pulling on pavement/sand and i was just spinning my rear so i had to lock it down to get it out.. after that it wouldn't come out so, maybe it is a bad switch
