i have looked around here and can't find anything that helps me identify the trans we are dealing with. a friend is trying to swap his c-4 trans out of his 79 f-100 short box 2 wheel drive. he got a trans out of a 74 comet.the car has a 302 and the trans was supposed to be a c-4,but he says it looks different at the bellhousing.he doesn't think they are the same size.the info i have found tells me its a c-4,except the bellhousing area is different. i was told there is a "big" case c-4 and a "small" case c-4. is this true? if this is true, that would make sense why it is different.i don't think we can swap these two transmissions. i also have given him my c-6 out of a '77 E-150 ford van with a 351 winsor.we have everything from this van, drive shaft, rear diff, engine, cross member, etc. i know we will need to get the drive shaft shortened to use the c-6 combo. any help offered would be great.
thanks 85e150six4mtod, for the trans info links. it looks to me like he has an got an FMX instead of a c4 from the 74 comet. i think we should try to go with the c6 i gave him,and the drive line parts that go with the c6. we dont have the drive line parts that went with the FMX,so that could just become a whole new challenge we dont really need. thanks for your help.-billy
