biggest tire possible with out problems

Hi, I have a 3/4th ton truck that I will be lifting soon and getting 33"s/35"s. Now, my mechanic said that putting bigger tires on vehicles is very hard on them. They way he explained it to me was he said take to 10ib potatoe bags and hold them in each hand and then hold your arms straight out with the bags in your hands.. That's what you are doing to your vehicle. Okay, so how hard is it on a truck with 33"s? What about 35"s? That is basically the only question I had.. I just don't want stuff to start messing up on my truck since I am getting the tires/lift mainly for looks.

it does stress things a little more than stock but a lot of guys run larger tires with no problems. i have 33s on my truck ive seen guys with 35s 37s on stock suspension with no problems.

it depends what kind of axles you have a dana 60 will handle about 40in tires and not complain at all a 44 will handle 33in tires with no complaints a 8.8in rear will handle around 35in tires and not complain

not saying this is the limit but if you put 37s on your truck with a ttb dana 44 front end you'll probably be fine unless you offroad then you can count on breaking stuff i wouldn't run more than 35s on a ttb d44 front end and that's just if they are mud terrains if they are boggers figure 33s

I don't think you will have any problems running a 33. I know lots of people that run 35's with Dana44's and it works just fine. I'm running 37's with a Dana60 and its good aswell.

And that sack of potatoes comparison is quite possibly the most insane thing I have ever heard. I mean for me, I could do it all day, but for a mere man? That isn't even close to a good comparison.

It does provide more leverage on things, but if a 35 is the biggest your going to go you should be just fine with a 3/4 ton pickup..

...none of that was a complete sentence.

What was that supposed to mean?

Im runnin 36's on a stock (as far as suspension) f150 and Ive been fine.
I dont understand the potatoe thing.....
The only thing youll notice if you go too big for your gears is a little bit loss of power and less MPG.

265 or 285? I assume you are referring to the tire size. But if your using metric you need the second number. Its not a height specificly, its a ratio.
(265x75) which is like a 31? And (285x75) which is, what a 33?

As for the snow traction, I think that has more to do with your tire tread and how much frame your dragging. I've run 33's and i've run 37's in the snow. And the only difference in tire size was that I wasn't dragging around as much axle..

I think the F-250 would do just fine aswell. I've seen stock F-250's run bigger than that and not have much trouble.

I guess the potatoe thing wasn't thought out that well. I suppose the stress on your arms would be equal to the stress on the truck with bigger tires. Which, I completely disagree with.

I think that upgrading to 37's actually HELPED my gas mileage. I was cruising with high RPM's at 50mph with my 33's. Its much lower now that i've got the 37's. But for the most part it probably does reduce it.

Kris says you want to run the smallest tire possible, so 29's should be baller.

33 inch will be about the tallest you can fit without modifications.
