Shudder and other problems
I have a 91 F-150 4WD. I've had trouble identifying my transmission and several people have told me that the transmission was an AOD and I could tell due to the fact that it has a 14 bolt pan. Is this true?
Anyway, on to my mechanical problem - approximately a month and a half ago, I was driving in OD when the engine began revving and the tranny began slipping. I exited the freeway and put the transmission in "Drive" and it drove fine. I've been driving this way since then but last Friday the transmission developed a shudder under load which I've concluded to be a torque converter failing. Is this true or does anyone have any other suggestions? The truck has 138K miles but the transmission and engine have been maintained per the owners manual. The fluid is still pink and doesn't smell burnt. I'm wondering whether to replace the TC or maybe some other part or whether the entire transmission needs replacing.
Thanks in advance.
