The only problem I am gonna have giong to the 'new' sealed distributor is the shielding wire, not the shield itself (you can get that from acme or parts express), the wire has to be noble and has to be woven to avoid allowing a coherent emf - where to get that stuff I need to look up.

for now I am gonna use a blown TFI that has the pwr, pip and gnd passthrus and make a new harness for it and mount the new remote.

I found a few websites of people that did this for mustangs and they gut bad TFIs to plug into the pip sensor and make a cable but I dont think I have seen one that shields it - the pip and gnd should be in the shield and connected to an ECU pin that handles the discharge.

Note that the shield can only be grounded at one end or the Ignition system will have problems.

I cant see your diagram here at work (but I can at home) but doesnt it say/imply that the shield is electrically connected to the dist AND the ECU?

No it does not. And if you do engines have been known not to start.
The Ignition ground source is the distributor and shield ground source is the PCM Computer.

Did this over vacation, at a campground - built the harness at the picnic table.

the truck now runs great (light load spark ping tho - need to look at propogation delay)

I did the following and it towed 5000lbs of chris craft everywhere:

cleaned all power conenctions to perfection

Used a known good TFI as the dist mounted one - to a perfectly cleaned dizzy.

Used a known good remote off a 92-93 Ford

Used a shielded wire from home depot for the pip

re-routed the power supply from the harness,

pulled the entire tfi harness out of the main and re-loomed it

used a known good pip sensor

replaced the dang coolant gauge sensor with 1 of 4 I got from a yard, the gauge now works again.

any or all of these measures may have helped.
