1964 f100 2wd dana 40 factory posi rear brake question
help, can anyone tell me which shoe goes where? as i remember it the shoe that has more friction material goes rearward, however, it sounds and feels like they are hanging up like this. When I installed the new shoes, I also rebuilt the wheel cylinders and was thinking that mabey the newly rebuilt cylinders were too much for the 40 year old springs, so I just got a hardware kit with all new springs and plan to install it today or tomorrow, but wondered if i had the shoes installed wrong. I do not hear the chatter in reverse, but I have not gone more than 100 feet in reverse at a time.
You are right about which way the shoes go. I also think you are on the right track by fitting new springs. If not already done on the new shoes you might try to bevel the ends of the brale linings a little with a flat file.
