I have a 66f100 with all new brake parts
Master cylinder
wheel cylinders
shoes
drums
and power assist unit
The brakes work good but the shoes take a minute to release, I put new springs on and no help.
I was thinking maybe a bad master cylinder but just wanted to get another opinion.
What are your thought on why it takes a minute for the shoes to release.
Thanks
Reading through my vintage 1961-1971 chiltons manual last night I came across a gauge to check the booster rod length, the one that sits inside the bore of the master cylinder. If that rod is too long it will allow the brakes to drag which it sounds like. According to the book the rod should be protruding 0.995-1.005 of an inch. It also lists the master cylinder compensating port as clogged, too much wheel bearing drag, and a deffective vacuum check valve.
To make the gauge you need some #16 sheet steel. It is 2 7/8" wide and 1 3/4" tall. The pushrod screw slot is 1 1/16" in from the outbaord edge and 3/4" wide. The slot can be 0.995-1.005
I think the slot should be 1.005 deep so you can use a feeler gauge to check for the other .010 But that is just me.
