I have a 1999 f-350 7.3 diesel Dually. I want to do a stock muffler delete. I have read many of the threads on this subject. First of all , I understand you need a 3.5 straight pipe for the stock exhaust. How long should the pipe be cut to? Second, I assume the straight pipe purchased will be 3.5 OD or 3.5 ID? Third, the stock exhaust is 3.5 ID or 3.5 OD? I want the ends to slip over and clamp to the stock exhaust. So what size should the flared ends be 3.5 ID?? Is this correct???
First you can determine if the stock exhaust is 3 1/2" ID or OD by measuring it at the end of the tail pipe. It is the same OD pre and post muffler.
The length of the delete pipe will be determined by two things. 1. The lenght of the muffler and pipe you cut out. 2. The length of the flares on each end of the delete pipe. The length of the flared ends must be added to the length cut out. The ID of the flared ends should be the same as the OD of the stock exhaust that you measured.
If you can find the proper ID tube you will not have to have it flared at either end. If this is the case allow about 3" overlap at each end and add 6" to the length that was cut out.
Also you should consider the hanger at the rear of the muffler. With the muffler removed you have to add a new hanger so it matches up with the stock hanger mount.
Edit: Nice link Nolan. I wonder if they supply the pipe with a hanger.
Edit 2: MBRP delete pipes come in only 4 and 5" size. Is that why you would clamp the chit out of it?
The answer I am looking for is based on a stock exhaust pipes . So if the stock pipes at are 3.5 OD then the Straight pipe should be 3.5 ID. Are the straight pipes normally sold 3.5 ID? So with this being said then the exhaust on a 1999 f-350 are usually 3.5 OD? The reason I am asking is the truck is located 200 miles away and I have no way of getting to it to measure it.
Believe it or not i have a muffler on my truck. That is why it sounds different then other trucks that are straight piped. If you get 4" delet pipe with the flared ends it should clamp down just fine on your stock 3.5" exhaust. And for $37 it seems like a good deal.
where are you located? I will be installing a 4 inch system soon. I have the straight pipe welded onto mine. Easy enough to give it away. Not so easy to ship it.
When I did mine I had an old exhaust system from a friends truck. I cut a straight section from his old system and turned the pipe in front of the muffler over. A straight section fits right in then.
Dang, that first link sould be just what i'm looking for.
Being straight and all I could use it for a cat delete pipe.
Has anyone tried or used it for that ?
I'm bumping this because I'm curious about using the muffer delete pipe as a cat delete.. It seems to me if I just measure correct, cut the it should clamp right on..
Any help or suggestions ??

That will work just fine. Same as a muff delete. Hang onto the CAT just in case, you never know.
