Salvaging 2006 6.0 exhaust for my 1990 7.3idi

1990 cclb 7.3 idi non turbo. OEM exhaust is beat up and beginning to leak.

Found a local guy selling a stock exhaust removed from a low mileage 2006 F350 6.0 crew cab long bed. Everything I am reading is stating that this is a 3.5" pipe, but when I compare to Walker's online catalog, a replacement system is showing the 3.5" from downpipe to the converter, then 3" back through muffler and tail pipe. Anyone know for sure?

My plan was to get this for cheap since it's quality piping, the majority of the length, has the over axle bend, and then just cut out the cat and muffler sections and get two pieces of pipe at auto parts store. Figure with some adapters, connectors, and a few hangers repurposed, I could have a 3.5" straight pipe for around $80.

Thanks

Or just do the standard Dynomax 19430 kit, and ditch the restrictive factory y-pipe that seems to be the issue.

Shopping around, I can order through AutoZone, and with coupon code & free shipping, I can get it to my door for $250. It's a 3" y-pipe, to a adapter, 4" muffler and tail pipe.

It' a pretty common upgrade for these trucks. Most use the OBS powerstrokes, the 2006 6.0 exhaust is even nicer. 15' of mandrel 3.5" is going to be much more than $40. Plus it gives me the option to run the muffler if the straight through approach is too loud. It will all be welded anyways, as I typically only like one flange/u-bolt connection (which will be at the y pipe).

Since the Dynomax y-pipe is the same design as the stocker, I don't really see much of a gain. Will be going with the SD 3.5" setup, and using the following parts from Summit to adapter to 2.5" y-pipe and removing muffler.
