I have a 2004 Sport Trac that doesn't seen to know when the door is open. The newer Fords allow most electrical components, wipers, radio, fan etc., to continue working for a period of time after you turn the key off. The extended use of these functions stops when you open the drivers door. Except on mine. I'm guessing it's related to a button or sensor that see's the door open or closed.
However, I cannot find a button in the door jamb, like previous years, so I figure there's an electrical contact made instead. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Accessory delay
With accessory delay, the radio, windows, and moon roof operate for up
to ten minutes after the ignition switch is turned from the ON to the
OFF position or until any door is opened.
Will it go off if you open any other doors?
Fuse 27 in the Passenger compartment fuse panel controls the delay as well as inst. cluster and wipers. I assume the other items operate correctly.
Yes. All other doors cause everything to disconnect and shut off normally. Everything on the truck works it's just the drivers door that does not interrupt the circuit. Now, the electrical connection for this door open/closed contact, is it inside the door or in the door pillar.
It "should" operate off of the door ajar switch incorporated into the door latch ...... I think. If the drivers door is open does the door ajar lamp illuminate?
#1-Door ajar switch electrical connector.
#2-Ground wire.
#3-Front door latch.
I really appreciate your info on the lock connectors. With the help of the illistration you provided I took the door panel off and found the power lead to the latch broken off. This was caused by the window track. The spot welds on the bracket that supports the rear track by the latch had broken off and the leads for the latch were anchored to this track bracket. As the window moved up and down this track moved back and forth pulling the lead off the spade connector. I drilled and pop riveted the bracket to the track and reinstalled it. Then a piece of wire, some solder and a heat shrink tube and we were back in service.
