Hey guys, I have a couple questions I hope you can answer. I picked up a 76 f150 super cab long bed a couple of weeks ago for a new project. Well I just found a 94 f350 with a running powerstroke for 650.00 the problem is it doesnt have a trans behind it.
So what trans do I need to look for and what should I need to make it work in the 76? Also is there anything I need to know about these motors? it has 180k on it and runs good, jusy has white smoke on start-up. So im thinking glow plugs or injectors?
You need to supply us with what type of tranny that it had before you got hold of it.
180K is just getting broke in. (more or less) I really think that you need to get a tranny in it so that it can be driven, once that happens you will be on better ground to attack any symptoms I would think.
You'll need to fab up motor mounts and trans mounts. Might have to modify the radiator mounts and what-not. And the shift linkage unless you did a floor mount shifter in it.
You'll want to upgrade axles and get stiffer front springs. The 9-inch and Dana 44 won't hold up to the power. Need Dana 60's.
Custom length driveshaft. Ladder bars and other things to keep the frame and springs from twisting too much if you stick with stock springs.
I think it's a cool idea. I've thought about doing the same thing before. GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks for all the info. This truck is going to be a show truck. it will be lowered with a complete custom air ride setup, fully boxed frame and will have a crown vic front clip on it. I'm going to have to stick with the 9in., I have a few built ones around here.
I will keep you guys up to date as soon as I start tearing into this project. Right now I'm just coleecting parts and finishing up some other projects.
