Howdy all
I have my ceramic coated uppies on there way, and Im gunna get my 4" downpipe coated when I put em in. Now would I gain any type of improvement if I get my turbo exhaust housing coated as wel ????
Yup. Also, you would see more benefit from coating your exhaust manifolds as opposed to your downpipe. You are going to gain more thermal efficiency benefit pre-turbo as opposed to post-turbo. Talk to Clay at Riffraff Diesel. He has been doing some interesting tests with ceramic coating.
You want as much pre-turbo coated as possible, post turbo do not bother. You should aim for the most temperature difference out of the turbine, so do not insulate the materials post- turbo with ceramic. It is more important to coat the INSIDE of the pipes, not the outside.
Oh and duck fan, your title should say: Basura Blanca,
Im only doing the downpipe cause it is so close to the firewall (Aussie set up) try and keep the heat out of the cabin. How is this coating applied ?? is it a dip method ??
When I first started looking into it I called several companies including the above, and there numbers just weren't impressive for heat retention. The coating I am currently using was developed specifically for the military and guarantees 60% heat retention.
Thx Clay
Got in contact with a performance mob here. Im going to get the downpipe, exhaust housing and the headers done. Cant wait till those uppies come Clay .
