there are a lot of other variables that mythbusters didnt test though. stuff like different engine sizes, regular cab vs. extended cab, and 8 ft vs. 6 ft beds. these all make a difference.
What does engine size have to do with aerodynamics? Two trucks of the same model and body configuration with different engines have the same aerodynamic profile. The very slight differences underneath in the driveline would have negligible effects. You are correct that the cab and bed sizes will make a difference, though.

The problem with Miley is she's relatet to Billy Ray...That sell out of a country music star. He got his lights punched out by Travis Tritt at an annual event up in Wisconsin who called him a "tennis shoe cowboy". Now he's some TV soap star........What a piece of ****...........

According to the great Wikipedia, Taylor Swift is 19...
Also to put my two cents in (well, on the original topic), tailgate up. If it's down, it could bounce around and actually break off if you hit bumps too fast. Also, it's like the fourth wall to the "house" that is the bed of the truck and provides stability for the other three sides. With the tailgate down, the bedsides shake around a lot more than they should and the sheetmetal could warp over time.
Taylor Swift would kill me. It's all I can do to watch her videos, or see her in concert. She is HOT. (Have you seen Lisa on Ice Road Truckers?) Now thats a babe with a gearshift!
So, what you gentlemen are saying is that maximum fuel efficiency is garnered with the truck shut off, the tailgate down and _____________________(insert name here) polishing it with her blouse? Works for me! Wonder why they didn't try that scenerio on Myth Busters? Maybe they did and it just didn't make final edit.
When it comes time to drive away, though, I would put the tailgate up.
