Transfer Case?

I was under my 86 F150 4x4 today and I noticed a stamp on it. The info on it says NEW PROCESS GEAR, Model 208F1, Ratio 261, Syracuse New York. There was other stuff on it but I could not read it. What Transfer Case is this? There is also a stamp that says NP with the N and P connected. The NP is circled by a sun shape circle. Thansk for the help.

Transfer Case?

i don't know why they made them in N,Y but they work great i have olny seen one fail from everyday life and that is because it cracked and ran out of oil a note they use ATF for lube. that is because they have a pump in them mounted on the main drive shaft and a tube that runs to the bottom of the transfer case to draw up the oil and a heavy weight oil will not draw through the screen or up the tube very well when it is cold possibly starving gears and bearings of valueable oil hope this helps

Transfer Case?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 11-Jan-02 AT 10:55 PM (EST)]The New Process plant is in Syracuse and at the time had the contract to make transfer cases and trannies for Ford. Now they are owned by New Venture Gear, which is either partly or wholly owned by Daimler-Chrysler. NVG also owns Muncie Transmission. Your transfer case is OEM, via contract.

The 261, I believe, is your 4-low planetary set rating. 2.61:1 ratio. Which should give you a rock crawler in first gear and four low.

Hope that helps you.
